When the allegations of animal cruelty surfaced in late January, Cody’s spokesman told Fox Sports that the football player’s dog recently died of worms. Cody paid $8,000 for the Bullmastiff, which came from Spain, the spokesman told NBC Sports.

The day Baltimore County police reported that Cody was under investigation for animal cruelty, the Baltimore Ravens announced plans to terminate his contract, which was set to expire in March. On Monday, the Ravens reported the termination had taken effect.
