ScholarChip, a New York-based company recently awarded a contract from the Baltimore County Public School system, has signed a lease with St. John Properties, Inc. for 7,560 square feet of space at 9 Easter Court, a LEED-designed, single-story, 30,120 square foot R&D/flex office building contained within Dolfield Business Park in Owings Mills, Maryland. ScholarChip has pioneered technology and products that are used by school systems around the country to monitor attendance and support safety protocols for students and faculty members. The company anticipates employing approximately 20 workers at this new regional office during the first year of operation, with the possibility of increased hiring as new contracts are won. 9 Easter Court is one of two recently-completed speculative buildings totaling more than 60,000 square feet of space within Dolfield Business Park, a six-building business community now comprising nearly 180,000 square feet of R&D/flex and office space. The park is situated in close proximity to two exits off Interstate 795 in northwest Baltimore County, and within two miles of Owings Mills Town Center and four miles from the Baltimore Beltway. The 9 Easter Court building is now 100% leased, with Schneider Electric, USA having signed a 22,560 square foot lease earlier this year.
Beginning with the fall school year, ScholarChip will supply 126,000 students and staff members of the Baltimore County Public School system with smart ID cards that will be used to take real-time attendance, both in the classroom and the entrance to the school building. The system automatically reconciles attendance data, assisting personnel in establishing a school environment that is conducive to improving student behavior and school safety. All data is recorded near to real time in cloud-based reports. ScholarChip technology and products are also used by the Carver Technical Vocational High School in Baltimore City.
ScholarChip intends to use the Dolfield Business Park location as a regional office and operations center servicing contracts throughout Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The location, which is expected to become operational by September, will focus on product assembly of the attendance readers, kiosks and card issuance stations, and customer relations.
“Our newest facility, which joins existing locations in Long Island and Union Square in the New York City region, as well as Philadelphia and Portland, will provide space for fulfillment, advanced hardware construction and client support,” stated Maged Atiya, Chief Technology Officer of ScholarChip. “This location, which is intended to service our growing list of partner schools and distributors in the mid-Atlantic and southeast sections of the country, will bring new high technology jobs to the area. Our company intends to establish a long-term presence in Owings Mills and Baltimore County.”
