BGE Activates Its ‘PeakRewards Event’ Today

Air conditioners of participating customers will run at 50 percent for three to five hours.

BGE Activates Its ‘PeakRewards Event’ Today

Time to draw the blinds, turn on your overhead fans, and make sure the blades are spinning counter-clockwise.

If you’re a member of BGE’s PeakRewards program, your central air conditioning will be “cycled,” which is the fancy way of saying that for the duration of today’s PeakRewards event—usually three to five hours—the compressor will only run at the 50 percent level.

This applies “even for customers who enrolled at the higher levels of 75 and 100 percent,” BGE’s press release states.

“Customers participating in the water heater program will experience a 100 percent cycling of their water heaters,” states the release, “meaning their water will not be reheated until the event ends.”

Today’s event is a non-emergency activation, which means customers can override the cycling using their PeakRewards device. A customer can override an event two times per device, per season.

Customers receive credits on their BGE bills when they participate in the PeakRewards program. If you’re interested in signing up, go to www.BGESmartEnergy.com or call 1-888-309-PEAK (7325).
