UPDATE: 12 Displaced by 2-Alarm Perry Hall Apartment Fire

A fire struck Silver Spring Station Apartments, on the unit block of Arlen Road in Perry Hall, on Sunday night.

UPDATE (11:20 p.m.)—No one was injured in an Sunday night in Perry Hall, although 12 people were displaced from their homes, a Baltimore County fire official said.

Firefighters responded to on the unit block of Arlen Road, off Silver Spring Road, shortly after 7 p.m., according to county fire Capt. Ross Cooke.

When firefighters arrived, flames were visible from the balcony of a top-floor apartment and the fire had spread into the attic of the complex. All of the building's residents had already on their own, Cooke said.

No residents or firefighters were injured, he said, and flames were contained by 8 p.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

"Firefighters made a good attack on the fire. They were able to confine the fire to one side of the building," Cooke said. "It was good weather for fighting this fire. Ice was not an issue at this point and wind conditions were low, which kept the fire from spreading."

A total of 24 people live on both sides of the apartment complex, Cooke said. Twelve of them would likely be able to return to their homes on Sunday night, while 12 others would be displaced until further notice.

The was expected to arrive on the scene to assist the fire victims, he said.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the owner of the top-floor apartment, where the fire appeared to have started, stood with her two adult sons outside the complex.

No one was home when the fire started, said one of her sons, who declined to be identified. He said he was grateful that no one was hurt.

Resident Julia Russell was waiting with neighbors, family members and her dog outside the complex. While flames had not reached her apartment, she was unsure how much damage was caused by smoke.

"It was scary," Russell said. "We're not sure when we'll be able to go back in."

While traveling to the fire, at the intersection of Belair and Cottington roads in Perry Hall, Engine No. 482 was involved in traffic accident, according to a Baltimore County fire dispatcher.

There were no reported injuries in the accident, the dispatcher said.
