Burglars Target High-End Homes In Potomac

The recent rash of burglaries in Potomac has been aimed at affluent households, according to Montgomery County police.

In November police revealed that at least five of the recent burglaries in Potomac could be related. Police Chief Tom Manger told a late November meeting of the West Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board that burglars were targeting high-end homes in particular.

“They don’t care if there’s an alarm,” Manger said at the meeting. “They’re going in and ransacking the houses and stealing high priced jewelry.”

In each one, burglars used force to break into homes, either through the windows or doors, according to a police statement. The intruders targeted jewelry and cash.

Affected neighborhoods are spread across the Potomac area, including:

  • The 9200 Block of Farnsworth Drive
  • The 11200 Block of Marwood Hill Drive
  • The 8800 Block of Stonetrail Drive
  • The 13500 Block of Hunting Hill Lane
  • The 12200 Block of Greenbriar Branch Drive

“High-end homes appear to be targeted and many victims have been Asian households,” Police spokesperson Angela Cruz told Patch. “The trend is not exclusive to Asian households.”

Since November, a number of other burglaries and attempted burglaries have been reported around Potomac and Travilah, but it is unclear if they are also related. Bethesda residents have experienced several recent burglaries as well.
