Sugo Cicchetti Opens Today in Potomac Park

Italian restaurant is by owners of Cava, Cava Mezze and Mamma Lucia.

Sugo Cicchetti Opens Today in Potomac Park

Since December of 2010, buzz has been building about a partnership of some popular local restaurateurs. Today, Sugo Cicchetti—the result of the union between the owners of Cava and Mamma Lucia restaurants—opens in Potomac Park.

Bethesda Magazine quoted co-owner Ted Xenohristos explaining that the words in the establishment’s name are not necessarily meaningful “Sugo is the name of the restaurant and cicchetti is what we serve.” For the record, “sugo” means sauce in Italian, and “cicchetti” are small plates/snacks/side dishes.

The preliminary menu features some classics: margherita pizza, linguine with clam sauce and a Caesar salad, alongside new twists on Italian cooking such as green eggs and ham (made with deviled eggs, crispy pancetta and truffle and basil oils), a duck confit pizza and a very modern interpretation of a Caprese salad, which chef Dimitri Moshovitis said “will be served as a grilled cheese on brioche.”

Desserts look to be the same balancing act of old a new with homemade cotton candy and a Nutella cheesecake with salted caramel popcorn.
