ROCKVILLE, MD — Firefighters battled near-zero temperatures in a futile effort to save a two-alarm fire in a maintenance barn at a Rockville country club
About 75 Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services responders were eventually dispatched to the Woodmont Country Club, 1201 Rockville Pike in Rockville, Thursday night. Units found heavy fire in a 300-foot by 60-foot two-story barn.

Crews quickly contained the fire to the barn. Because the barn’s roof collapsed and due to other environmental issues, department officials decided to let the fire burn out while firefighters monitored the site.
No injuries were reported. Due to the frigid conditions, wind chill was reported to be 7 degrees at the time, the Medical Ambulance Bus was on scene to provide shelter for fire crews.

The investigation into the origin and cause of the blaze has been delayed because of the unsafe condition of the barn. Damage estimates will also be assessed at that time, although the total dollar loss is expected to be significant, fire officials said.
