Anne Arundel County Football Roundup: Final Week

Arundel and Old Mill already have clinched playoff spots in the 4A East Region, but the final two spots are up for grabs.

Anne Arundel County Football Roundup: Final Week

There are still playoff spots to be earned as we enter high school football's final week of regular season play.

Arundel and Old Mill have already clinched spots in the Class 4A East Region, but Broadneck, Meade and South River all enter this week at 7-2. Only two of these teams can earn a playoff spot.

Let's take a look at the matchups.

1. Arundel (9-0): The undefeated Wildcats travel to Southern (3-6) Friday evening with a perfect regular season on the line. While Arundel may look like the easy favorite, it's important to remember that the Wildcats lost to Southern on the final day in 2010 despite entering the game with a perfect record. The team will look to avoid a repeat of history Friday night. However, no matter what happens, Arundel will be in the playoffs.

2. Old Mill (8-1): The Patriots will travel to South River Friday evening. While Old Mill has already clinched a spot in the 4A East region playoffs, South River has not. If the Seahawks beat Old Mill, they will earn a chance at postseason play. South River has been led by running back Lavon Chaney. If the Patriots want to finish the season with a win, they will need to stop South River's run game.

3. Broadneck (7-2): The Bruins will host Meade on Friday. In the showdown for a playoff spot between Broadneck, South River and Meade, the Bruins have a slight edge because they have played a tougher schedule and have more accumulated ranking points. Broadneck is in the playoffs with a win over Meade or a South River loss to Old Mill.

4. South River (7-2): South River needs a win over Old Mill to clinch a playoff spot.

5. Meade (7-2): The Mustangs travel to Broadneck on Friday and need a win to make the postseason.

6. Chesapeake (5-4): At North County

7. Severna Park (3-6): Home against Northeast

8. Southern (3-6): Home against Arundel

9. Glen Burnie (2-7): At Annapolis

10. North County (1-8): Home against Chesapeake

11. Northeast (1-8): At Severna Park

12. Annapolis (1-8): Home against Glen Burnie
