Long-time Pasadena resident Peggy O’Neil Gilligan has always enjoyed music.
She studied at Peabody Prep and has sung in many a cappella groups. Now, she is releasing her first CD—a collection of Christmas favorites—with all proceeds going to benefit the Hospice of the Chesapeake.
“The reason for initially recording the CD was I wanted to be able to leave a musical legacy for my grandchildren,” Gilligan said. “After it was in progress I decided I was doing it for them, but I want to see it give money to something good. So I decided to give proceeds to Hospice.”
Hospice of the Chesapeake is currently located in Annapolis but will soon move to a new location that is right on the Severna Park/Pasadena line on Ritchie Highway.
Gilligan has lived in Pasadena for 60 years and has been volunteering for the Hospice of the Chesapeake for 15 years. She has served as a patient care volunteer, and visits the homes of patients who are terminally ill.
“There are so many charities that involve children, or I guess charitable things that are more upbeat for most people to think about,” Gilligan said. “I found it so amazing the level of caring and passion Hospice of the Chesapeake gave to people as well as families in a difficult time. It seemed to be a place where I really wanted to put my time as well as any money that I can raise for the cause.”
Gilligan's CD, entitled Winter Sky, features classic holiday tunes and was released last week. However, it will be available for purchase starting Tuesday, at Treasures in the Park, located in Park Plaza in Severna Park.
“Proceeds will help pay for care for individuals who don’t have insurance,” said Sandra Anderson, director of communications for Hospice of the Chesapeake. “We don’t turn people away if they need care. We will care for people even if they don’t have insurance.”
Anderson said there would also be an open house for the release of the CD, and Gilligan will sign autographs. That will take place from noon to 4 p.m. on Dec. 7 at Treasures in the Park.
The CD is also available for purchase online.
