Shipley's Choice Blaze Injures Firefighter

A fire erupted at a home in the Shipley's Choice community of Millersville on Sunday morning, injuring a firefighter and causing about $550,000 in damages, a fire department spokesman said.

The house fire, in the 300 block of Green Aspen Court, was reported at 11:47 a.m. Sunday. Anne Arundel County firefighters battled the blaze for an hour before extinguishing it, according to Anne Arundel County fire spokesman Chief Michael Cox.

A total of 51 firefighters were on the scene.

Three people were at the home during the fire, but escaped without injury, Cox said. They told firefighters that they noticed smoke coming from the rear of the home and evacuated. While battling the blaze, one firefighter suffered minor injuries—burns to his ear and neck. He was treated at the scene, and then transported to the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it is believed to be accidental, Cox said.

CORRECTION: The town is Millersville, not Severna Park. Patch regrets the error.
