National Children's Center to Move to Silver Spring

From Vanguard Communications: The National Children’s Center (NCC), one of the region’s largest care providers for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, just announced the election by its Board of Directors of Patricia Browne as president and chief executive officer. Browne has a deep understanding of NCC’s core mission to provide a lifetime of opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, having most recently served as the organization’s chief operating officer and formerly as a board member. Browne succeeds Jesse Chancellor, who will retire on February 17, 2017.

Browne is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, where she received her Master of Business Administration with a concentration in organizational development and a certificate in leadership development. She is known for her expertise in marketing, leadership development, and risk and change management. Browne has played an integral role in developing NCC’s strategic plan and has led the organization through a number of major successful transformation initiatives.

“As we approach our 60th anniversary next year, I look forward to helping NCC grow into an even more powerful resource and ally to the people, families and communities we serve,” said Browne. “We have a strong team in place for our next phase of service. We will focus on increasing partnerships and strengthening core competencies to deliver the resources necessary for the children and adults we serve to live, learn, work, grow and thrive in their community.”

Chancellor will continue to work closely with Browne to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
“It has been a privilege to work with such a dedicated group of people who serve our special communities, and I am extremely proud of the accomplishments we’ve achieved during my tenure,” said Chancellor. “Now is the right time for our new leadership to take NCC forward.”

Another transition occurring later this year will involve NCC moving its headquarters from its current location in Washington, DC, to Silver Spring, MD. The new location is better suited to the organization’s current and future needs, and will allow staff to work in a more efficient, collaborative setting. The new, centrally located headquarters will be easily accessible by public transportation and convenient to NCC’s staff and beneficiaries.

NCC will maintain a prominent presence with its Early Learning and Early Intervention Center in Southeast Washington, DC. The organization’s residential, workforce development and adult day programs also will remain in the Washington metropolitan area.
