Calvert Hall Football Standout Trevor Williams Commits to West Virginia
Williams, entering his senior season with the Cardinals, joins teammate Da'Quan Davis in West Virginia's 2012 recruiting class.
Calvert Hall College High School football standout Trevor Williams wrestled with the decision for more than a month.
Ever since an impressive outing during a 7-on-7 football camp at West Virginia University in June and subsequently receiving a scholarship offer to attend the school and play for the Mountaineers’ football team, Williams, a wide receiver, had been weighing the offer.
Last Thursday, after more than a month of deliberation, Williams -- who will be a high school senior this fall -- verbally committed to the Mountaineers becoming the fourth Maryland player to join West Virginia’s 2012 recruiting class.

Williams’ Calvert Hall teammate Da’Quan Davis, a cornerback for the Cardinals, committed to the Moutaineers in June.
“I’m very excited,” Williams said. “It’s the opportunity of a lifetime, and I feel blessed. I can’t wait to be a Mountaineer.”

The commitment ends a frustrating recruiting process for Williams who, according to Calvert Hall coach Donald Davis, hadn't drawn the amount of interest from prospective schools that he felt he deserved.
The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Williams, who says he has run the 40-yard dash in as fast as 4.5 seconds, also received scholarship offers from Bryant, Morgan State, Toledo and Virginia Military.
While Williams received just five scholarship offers, including two from NCAA Division 1 FBS schools, Davis feels the Mountaineers are getting an extremely talented player.
Davis estimated that Williams has caught 100 passes during the last two seasons with the Cardinals, including 60 as a junior last year.
“He’s a complete player,” Davis said of Williams. “There are certain things that a collegiate coach looks for in a football player, and he has all those things. He has good size, he runs fast, he’s a great route-runner, he has great hands, gets yards after the catch, can go across the middle and can also be a deep threat. And then he’s also willing to play special teams and defense."
Davis added, "He’s a kid that just brings a great deal to a program as far as on the field. And off the field, he’s just a great kid, from a great family, is strong academically, and has great character. I can’t say enough about him, and couldn’t be happier for him.”
With Williams serving as a catalyst on both offense and defense -- he's also a starting safety -- Calvert Hall finished last season 11-1 and secured its first conference championship since 1982.
With numerous key players returning from last year’s team, Davis is hoping for similar success this season, and says Williams will play a key role.
“He’s going to factor into that a lot,” Davis said. “He’s our primary receiving threat. I know our quarterback, Thomas Stuart, is going to target him in key situations, and he’s going to be called upon to take on an even bigger role defensively. We’re going to be asking a lot from Trevor.”
Williams, meanwhile, is hopeful for success not only this season at Calvert Hall but once he gets to West Virginia as well.
“I definitely want to win a championship in my last year at Calvert Hall,” Williams said. “And at West Virginia, I just want to be able to help them win championships, too. I just want to be the best athlete I can be, though, be able to help my team win, be a great leader, be a great student-athlete and just a great all-around person.”
