Gay Rights Activists Dub Friday 'National Kiss Day' at Chick-fil-A

Gay rights activists have created a campaign called "National Same Sex Kiss Day." Will you be at Chick-fil-A today in support?

Following about same-sex marriage last week, gay rights activists have planned an event, dubbed “kiss day,” at the restaurant.

“In honor of their support for love, equality, and the real definition of a family, we’re holding a NATIONAL Same Sex Kiss Day at Chick-fil-As around the country,” the Facebook event page reads.

The post also adds that the event was not created to counter Mike Huckabee’s "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day,” which took place on Wednesday and CNN reported, earned the company “record-setting” sales.

Friday’s campaign urges people to bring friends, show up at the restaurant and take pictures and videos of themselves kissing to post online.

Chick-fil-A has 45 locations throughout Maryland, including stores in Bowie, Bethesda, Capitol Heights, Germantown, Laurel and Largo.

In an interview with The Baptist Press last month, Cathy announced his support for the “biblical definition of the family unit.”

His comments prompted a wave of backlash, and The Jim Henson Company, whose founder is from University Park, announced it would not partner with the restaurant in the future.

The Los Angeles Times reports that the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) supports “kiss day,” as well as an effort by gay rights advocates to promote eating at Kentucky Fried Chicken instead of Chick-fil-A.
