Overwhelming Community Support So Far for Hospital Campaign

Overwhelming Community Support So Far for Hospital Campaign

The Carroll Hospital Center Foundation, the non-profit organization that oversees the fundraising efforts of Carroll Hospital Center and Carroll Hospice, announced today that it has received more than $20 million in donations for the “Campaign to Cure & Comfort, Always,” the hospital’s community fundraising initiative.

The funds raised will directly support five key areas that will further the hospital’s vision, including the William E. Kahlert Regional Cancer Center and Tevis Center for Wellness, two new facilities that are currently under construction on Carroll Hospital Center’s campus and expected to open in September 2014. The hospital will also expand its cardiovascular and stroke services, upgrade its medical and communications technology, and create an endowment fund for Carroll Hospice.

“Reaching the $20 million mark in donations for the Campaign to Cure and Comfort, Always, further demonstrates how in Carroll County, our hospital just doesn’t take care of our community, but our community also takes care of our hospital,” said Lee Primm, Volunteer Chairman of the Campaign. “We have $2 million left to reach our goal. Everyone from North to South and East to West can make an impact with gifts of any size.”

Donations to the campaign have come from an array of Carroll County community members, including corporate and private donors; hospital volunteers, employees and medical staff; county representatives and delegates; current and former patients and their families. Many donors expressed their reasons for giving in letters written to the Carroll Hospital Center Foundation. Excerpts from a few of these letters appear below:

·        I serve on the Carroll Hospice Board and see first-hand the love and care that hospice provides in allowing death with dignity for the patient, and peace and comfort for the family. The quality of our hospice program could not be maintained without the generous support of our volunteers and the financial support of our community…supporting the campaign and gems like Carroll Hospital Center and Carroll Hospice is our responsibility and an investment in the health of our community. – Delegate Susan Krebs, Eldersburg, MD

·        It’s such a great community that we live in. We are grateful for the legacy of volunteering, giving and building better community support institutions that previous generations have left us. This compels us to help continue that legacy by making the already great things in our community even better if we can. We feel blessed to be able to help in whatever ways we can with whatever gifts we leave. We are delighted to be a small part of a large community of givers and volunteers. – Jack & Beth Tevis, Westminster, MD

·        When I knew there may be a hospital built in our small town of Westminster, I was asked to collect on Lincoln Road, going from house to house for donations. I cannot remember the year, but feel it was worth my time and effort. It was and still is an exciting time to see what has taken place and will continue to do so. Therefore what little I can do now is a joy for me. I now live at Carroll Lutheran Village but remember my days on Lincoln Rd with my family and am so glad I had the opportunity to be part of the great experience! Keep up the good work and thank all who feel as I do. – Mary Lee Yingling, Sykesville, MD

·        A good hospital is only possible with a supportive community. We are fortunate to have both. The gift that we have made to Carroll Hospital Center is an investment in our community and we have already received returns on it. We look forward to the comfort and security the ever-improving hospital center provides our friends, neighbors and family. – Robert and Carolyn Scott, Westminster, MD

·        I have seen such tremendous advances in our small community hospital in the 23 years I’ve been an associate at Carroll Hospital Center, many of which I’ve taken advantage of one way or another. I can only say to those considering supporting this cause that ‘these services are there for you – the residents of our community, and don’t you want the best care available right at your doorstep?’ Rebecca Price, Hospital Associate, New Windsor, MD

·        We view Carroll Hospital Center as one of the most progressive community hospitals in the region. Benefitting from strong leadership, you have expanded services over the years to become leaders in cancer, stroke, cardiac maternity, emergency and surgical care, to name a few. We’re proud to support these efforts in this small way, and we look forward to many more years of fruitful partnership. – Advanced Radiology
