Washington Post: Environmental Groups to Sue WSSC

Three environmental organizations say they plan to sue the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission,  The Washington Post reports.

The groups—Environmental Integrity Project, Potomac Riverkeepers and Chesapeake Bay Foundation—recently filed a formal notice of their intentions to file a lawsuit. They allege that WSSC’s treatment plant near Seneca, MD has been illegally discharging pollutants into the Potomac River for years,  The Post reports.

The plant purifies water from the Potomac and pipes it to most residents in Montgomery County.  A spokesperson from WSSC told the newspaper that the WSSC was operating within the bounds of the law.
