Proposed Andover Charter School Hires ‘Academic Leader’

State to vote on charter school proposal later this month.

Proposed Andover Charter School Hires ‘Academic Leader’

The proposed Andover charter school STEAM Studio has named Stephen Chinosi as “Head of School and academic leader.”

STEAM Studio — which stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art + Design, Mathematics — is still awaiting approval from the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education. That vote is expected to come later this month. If the application for the charter school is approved, Andover students could begin to register as soon as March 1.

Chinosi is the Chief Innovation Officer of Newton North High School and is also the district coordinator of Newton’s Innovation Lab and its Greengineering program.

“Our team is thrilled to have Stephen Chinosi lead the proposed school. He is one of the most inspiring and creative leaders in high school education today,” said Howard Lurie, a founding Board member of STEAM Studio.

Chinosi said he is excited about the new opportunity at the charter school.

“I am inspired by the school’s vision and mission and know that STEAM Studio has what it takes to be an exciting learning community for students and their families,” he said. “STEAM Studio can be part of the next iteration of the long tradition of world-class educational opportunities in Andover and the Merrimack Valley.”

Chinosi began teaching in 1997 at Essex Agricultural School in Danvers and later joined the Newton Public Schools in 2005.
