Arlington Superintendent Kathleen Bodie, Arlington High Interim Principal Mary Villano and acting athletic director Robert DiLoreto will address the high school’s recent athletic forfeitures at tonight’s School Committee meeting, according to the agenda (attached).

On Wednesday, Dec. 12, Bodie announced via a press release that the high school would be forfeiting a number of wins from last school year because several student athletes were found to have been academically ineligible under MIAA rules in an investigation by DiLoreto this fall. Some foreign exchange students were also found to have been ineligible during DiLoreto’s investigation, as they competed without the required MIAA waivers.

The varsity and junior varsity boys’ soccer, varsity boys’ tennis and junior varsity girls’ softball teams had their entire seasons last year forfeited, while the varsity wrestling, varsity and freshman baseball and junior varsity girls’ lacrosse teams had portions of their seasons forfeited. In addition, ineligible student athletes participated in varsity boys’ and girls’ indoor track, varsity gymnastics and hockey cheerleading.

DiLoreto has been filling in for Athletic Director Ted Dever since late August, when Dever was placed on paid administrative leave because he’s the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation. The school district is now reportedly trying to fire Dever.

In all likelihood, Dever’s name won’t come up at tonight’s meeting, as administrators and the committee usually don’t comment on personnel matters.

The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. tonight in the School Committee Room on the sixth floor of Arlington High School. “Athletic Forfeitures” is the first agenda item after chairwoman Kirsi Allison-Ampe’s opening remarks.

Other notable agenda items include a “Discussion of World Language Elementary Immersion Class” and 45-minute discussion on “School Committee Priorities on [the Fiscal Year 2014] Budget.”
