Edward Burns, Legendary Arlington High Hockey Coach, Dies at 93
The high school's hockey arena is named in his honor.
Edward P. Burns Sr., of Arlington, died Sunday, Feb. 9.
Beloved husband of Edith B. “Betty” (Bergstrom) Burns. Devoted father of Ed Jr., of California, Carl and wife Joan of Reading, Gary and wife Laurie of Seattle, Betty Ann Britton and husband Jay of Ashland, Brian of Easton, Marybeth Roche and husband Fred of Reading and Arline Peduto and husband Ed of Wakefield. Also survived by 16 grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Brother of the late George and Albert Burns and Catherine McNamara.
Funeral from the DeVito Funeral Home, 1145 Mass. Ave., ARLINGTON, Thursday morning at 9, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30 in St. Eulalia Church, Winchester. Committal service to follow Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Visiting hours in the DeVito Funeral Home Wednesday 1-8 p.m.
Late WWII Marine Veteran, retired Arlington High school teacher, athletic director, hockey coach for 50 years and football coach for 21 years.
