Five Things You Need to Know Today, Jan. 16

1. Weather:  Expect a mostly sunny morning followed by potential rain and snow in the evening. High temperatures could reach 33 with an overnight low of 28.

2. MLK Day in Arlington: The town has a special program to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. and the program begins at 7:30 p.m. at . There will be no meal as in previous years. Instead, attendees are asked to bring cookies or a bar-type dessert to serve five people. .

3. Trash collection: There will be no trash or recycling collections on Monday, Jan. 16. There will be a one-day delay for the remainder of the week. For missed pick-ups, please call Waste Management directly at 1-800-545-4560.

4. Offices Closed:  administrative offices are closed today in observance of MLK Day. Also closed are , the ,  and  and  libraries.

5. This day in history: The 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, prohibiting the "manufacture, sale, or transportation of intoxicating liquors for beverage purposes," is ratified on this day in 1919 and becomes the law of the land.
