Unlicensed Driver Hits Male in Crosswalk

The following information comes from the Arlington Police Department. When arrests are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Unlicensed Driver Hits Male in Crosswalk

An unlicensed driver hit a male in the crosswalk at the intersection of Summer Street and Victoria Road, near , at about 7 a.m. Monday, according to police.

The driver kept going until another driver caught up with him and yelled to him that he had just struck someone in the crosswalk, police said. The driver then turned around and returned to the scene.

The male was taken to Lahey Clinic by ambulance. He told police he was experiencing some leg pain.

The driver told police that he did not hit anyone. However, two witnesses said that they saw his white van strike the male, who then tumbled to the ground. The male was near the sidewalk when the incident happened, the witnesses said.

The driver was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a license and a crosswalk violation.

 

Charred Area at Menotomy Rocks Park

Police were called to at about 4:31 p.m. Tuesday for a report of an outside fire.

Once there, police and fire personnel were led to an area adjacent to the child park area near Jason Street and then up a hill to a charred area, which was about 30 feet long.

Fire personnel determined that the fire had been at least several days old and posed no threat. No accelerates were found in the area.

Man Doesn’t Know Where He Is After Bicycle Crash

A cyclist crashed just west of the Grove Street overpass on the bike path at about 1:17 p.m. Monday. Police believe the man suffered a concussion, as when an officer arrived on scene, the man did not know where he was.

The man was transported to Mass General Hospital in Boston by ambulance. He was wearing a helmet.

The man told police that he was riding west on the bike path when he hit a bump and was ejected from his bike. The bump was spray painted “BUMP.”

One of the handlebars on the man’s bike was bent in during the crash.
