Bag Containing Drug Sent to Seekonk High

Seekonk High School's main office was closed for about two hours and emergency personnel entered the campus after a packet containing a substance was found in a sealed envelope attached to a card. The substance was later determined to be the drug n-methyltryptamine, according to the Seekonk Police Department.

The school operated normally after the substance was found at about 9:30 a.m., with exception to the main office, as local fire and police personnel investigated the area. School principal Marcia McGovern wrote in a message to parents and community members that nobody at the school was ever in danger. The main office reopened at 11:30 a.m.

The substance was given to a Massachusetts District 1 Hazardous Materials Squad, which determined it was n-methyltryptamine

"The substance, in the state it was found, would not have posed an immediate danger to persons who may have handled it or were exposed to the environment around it," a Seekonk police press release states.

Police have not said how the envelope got to the school, who it was from or how much of the substance was found. The incident remains under investigation.
