Principal Hired for Hyman Fine

A 28-year veteran of the Stoughton school district has been hired as the principal of  in Attleboro. Patricia Martin was introduced at the school committee meeting on Monday.

Martin is a vice principal at  in Stoughton. Superintendent Pia Durkin said Martin is also involved in student intervention and has an "incredibly strong working knowledge of curriculum." Durkin said Martin has participated in district and school improvement efforts in Stoughton.

"I am absolutely thrilled to have been selected for this position," Martin told the committee. "I feel very lucky that I am going to be working with very talented people and wonderful students. I feel confident and comfortable coming into Hyman Fine school. It is similar in structure, size and makeup to the school where I currently work."

Martin will replace Cathy White, who announced last month that she leaving to take a position in another district.

Durkin told the school committee that the screening committee is still searching for an interim special education director.

"We are doing extensive outreach in a number of venues at this point ... Please know, this is not going to be a patient process. I well understand the importance of us having a special education director," Durkin said.

The superintendent said the delay on hiring an interim special education head would not have an effect on the district's summer program.

Durkin announced last month that Lisa Martesian was resigning as the special education director so that she could "explore other opportunities."
