HYANNIS, MA — A fire at the Eversource substation in Hyannis caused major problems for residential customers and local businesses and agencies on Wednesday evening.
Eversource officials said roughly 22,000 people were without power for a period on Wednesday night, with an initial group losing power around 6 p.m.
The Yarmouth Police Department was among the Eversource customers to experience a "major communication failure" as a result of the fire. Calls to 911 were directed to the Dennis Police Department who would then relay the calls to the dispatch center, police officials said.
