Hyannis-Bound Plane Crashes; 2 Dead
Two people were killed when a private plane crashed in South Jersey Wednesday morning.

HYANNIS, MA – Two people were killed when a small plane bound for Hyannis crashed in southern New Jersey Wednesday morning. A video captured the scene after the crash, where papers were strewn throughout an adjacent roadway.
A spokesperson for the Burlington County Dispatch Center in New Jersey confirmed that two people died in the crash in Springfield Township. They have not been identified, but 6 ABC reported they were two males.
There were no other passengers on the plane and no one on the ground in the wooded area where the plane crashed.

According to FlightAware.com, a Beechcraft plane left South Regional Airport just after 9 a.m. and was due to arrive at Barnstable Municipal Airport in Hyannis at 10:36 a.m. However, the activity log for the flight shows it went offline shortly after takeoff; reports say this is the same plane involved in the crash.
The private plane crashed in Springfield Township just after 9 a.m. Wednesday, according to New Jersey State Police. The single-engine, fixed-wing plane crashed at the intersection of Smithville-Jacksonville Road and Oxmead Road.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has identified the plane as a Hawker Beechcraft 58 Baron aircraft (pictured below). A spokesperson for the NTSB didn't have specific information about the flight, but 6 ABC reports the plane appears to have departed from South Jersey Regional Airport in Lumberton, 10 miles southwest of the crash scene. The NTSB was sending an investigator to the scene early Wednesday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing and police said more information would be provided later today. The cause of the accident wasn't immediately known, but skies were overcast and rain fell across the region early Wednesday morning.
A firefighter told nj.com the plane traveled across two fields before landing in the woods. A witness described hearing the humming and a loud thud from a nearby golf course.
Garrett Andrew Rodriguez-Maribona told Patch he and a few friends saw the crash and went to check for survivors. He provided the video below.
