The across from this past Friday night, Sept. 16, was featured on several local media outlets since news of the assault was released by Belmont Police on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
Two of the four major Boston television stations, WHDH and WCVB, broadcast reports from Belmont while NECN, the New England regional cable network, and one of Boston's two daily newspapers also reported on the assault online.
Additionally, High School Principal Michael Harvey sent a message to the student population and parents through the school's E-mail list that the victim "was not seriously injured."
"One of Belmont's greatest assets, its small town feel, can also lure us into feelings of false security. Unfortunately, the state of our society today requires that in addition to teaching 'reading, writing and arithmetic,' we also need to teach our children to take the proper precautions to ensure their personal safety," wrote Harvey.
Belmont Police Department Lt. Richard Santangelo said officers are continuing their investigation into the assault.
The news of the attack comes two months after another in July.
