Belmont Speaks Out: VDay Production to Protest Violence Against Women and Girls

Belmont Speaks Out: VDay Production to Protest Violence Against Women and Girls

Saturday, April 5 is VDay in Belmont.  At 7:30 pm, the First Church Unitarian Universalist at 404 Concord Ave will sponsor a production of Eve Ensler’s ‘A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant, and A Prayer’ (MMRP).  Money raised will be donated to My Life My Choice, a Boston organization that works with teen girls to get – and keep - them out of prostitution.

VDay is a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls.  Worldwide, one in three women and girls will be impacted by violence.  That’s one billion women and girls.  When Jackie Neel of Belmont learned this during the 2013 VDay Cambridge production of ‘The Vagina Monologues,’ she was compelled to do something.  She began working with other members of the First Church social action committee to organize a VDay production in Belmont.

The April 5 production will feature both men and women from Belmont and surrounding towns reading monologues from the MMRP collection.  Monologue authors include Maya Angelou, Howard Zinn, Kathy Najimy, and Tariq Ali.  Singer Nancy Beckford will also perform a selection of songs.

Tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students with ID and are now on sale at  vdaybelmont.brownpapertickets.com or at the door.
