Mitt Makes It Official: Another Round For President

South Cottage Road resident makes announcement north of the border in New Hampshire.

Mitt Makes It Official: Another Round For President

Before a crowd of supporters at a barbecue picnic in the key primary state of New Hampshire, Belmont's own declared today that, once again, he is running for president of the United States.

After serving his wife's "famous" chili to supporters, the former Massachusetts governor declared that "I'm Mitt Romney, I believe in America, and I'm running for president."

This marks the second time Romney – who has been with his wife, Ann, residents of Belmont for most of their adult lives beginning in 1974 – has stepped into the national political spotlight with a run for president.

In 2008, despite strong showings in New Hampshire and Michigan (which his father, George Romney, was governor in the 1960s), Romney ran behind Sen. John McCain and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee for the Republican nomination.

According to a live blog feed from , Romney, speaking at the Stratham, New Hampshire farm of Doug and Stella Scamman, said that Americans elected President Obama on the promise "to lead us to a better place."

"Now, in the third year of his four-year term, we have more than promises and slogans to go by. Barack Obama has failed America," said Romney.

“From my first day in office my No. 1 job will be to see that America once again is No. 1 in job creation," said the newly-minted candidate.

Currently, the Belmont resident is considered the frontrunner for his party's nomination with a campaign organization that is considered the strongest among the declared candidates and with a clear cash advantage over his challengers.
