Mitt Romney Wins Arizona Primary

Belmont resident wins 29 delegates in the west.

Mitt Romney Wins Arizona Primary

Belmont resident Mitt Romney is projected the winner of the Arizona primary, beating former Penn. Sen. Rick Santorum by nearly a two-to-one margin.

The last results, with 72 percent of the ballots counted, Romney received 48 percent of the vote compared to Santorum's 24 percent.

The former Massachusetts governor was favored to come out on top going into the contest and he did just that. In winning Arizona, Romney secured all of the state's 29 delegates.

According to exit polls, the main reason Republican voters selected a candidate was his ability to defeat President Obama in the November general election.
