Police: Bicyclist with Headphones on Did Not Realize the Railroad Gates Were Coming Down For a Train; Crashed Into Gate Causing Damage

Friday, April 17
At 6:16 p.m., suspicious package on Western Avenue. Party stated the items look like hand grenades.
At 6:18 p.m., fraud reported on Cox Court. Stolen identity.

At 8:12 p.m., traffic enforcement on Cabot Street and Thorndike Street. Driver had to slam on brakes to avoid rear-end collision; he had a cellphone in his hand and had been looking at the screen,
Saturday, April 18

At 12:01 a.m., disturbance on Elliott Street. Loud house party. Approximately a dozen people were gathered in a living room; windows open and lights on. Nothing outrageous, The lights went off and all was quiet when the group saw officers arrive.Resident eventually came to the door, and was advised to keep the noise down and close windows. Resident agreed. Officers notified him that he would be cited if they had to return. The partygoers apparently waited until officers drove off. Police were called back because of the loud noise. Officers tagged a motor vehicle for a parking violation, and resident was issued a city ordinance violation for the noise, and the party was cleared out.
At 2:12 a.m., assist citizen on Essex Street and Evelyn Road. Party with a flat tire was sleeping on the ground.
At 9:35 a.m., employee theft reported at Super Petroleum on Cabot Street.
At 4 p.m., hit and run accident with property damage on enon Street.
Sunday, April 19
At 8:17 a.m., medical on High Street. Female threatening to jump off bridge.
At 12:04 p.m., missing person reported on Oakhurst Road. Missing toddler from home quickly located.
At 8:07 p.m., hazard, railroad gates down on Cabot Street and Kittredge Street. A dog walker advised officer that a bicyclist with headphones on did not realize the railroad gates were coming down for a train. The bicyclist smashed into the long gate; causing damage. The gate was unable to raise up, which kept the lights/ sounds activated. Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company notified.
