Northeastern University Ph.D. Student Received Facebook Scholarship to Attend Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing
The scholarship provided students the opportunity to spend two days prior to the conference with Facebook employees

Fanny Nina-Paravecino, a doctoral student at Northeastern University’s College of Engineering, was awarded a Facebook Grace Hopper Celebration Scholarship (FBGHC16) to attend the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. Held in Houston, Texas, the conference took place in October and is held annually by the Anita Borg Institute for Women in Technology and the Association for Computer Machinery.
Awarded to around 60 students in total, the scholarship gave students the opportunity to spend two days prior to the conference with Facebook employees. They were assigned a mentor based on their level of education, and were offered the chance to interview for an internship/full-time position within the company.
“I would recommend this experience for any student who is interested in an internship or career with Facebook,” said Nina-Paravecino. “I was able to explore what it would be like to work for Facebook, and then was able to get to know other companies and researchers at the conference.”
