SUV Burst Into Flames, Closes Lanes On Route 24

The fire started from a mechanical failure in the car's engine. The engine overheated and the SUV burst into flames.

BRIDGEWATER, MA — Flames fully engulfed an SUV on Route 24 North, just before Exit 16 on Thursday afternoon.

The fire started from a mechanical failure in the car's engine, which caused it to overheat, Fire Chief Thomas Levy told Bridgewater Wicked Local. The vehicle burst into flames and was declared a total loss. No injuries were reported. It too about half an hour fire firefighters to extinguish the flames.

State police temporarily closed the right two lanes to traffic.
