Brookline Arrest Log: Would-be Mugger Scared Off with Bottle

The following arrest report is based on Brookline Police Department reports for Sept. 17 through 20. Look for weekday incident reports each Saturday, weekend reports each Monday, and arrest logs each Tuesday on Brookline Patch. Suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

Wednesday, Sept. 19

  • Malicious damage – 33-year-old Brian Buiel of Brockton. Police received calls at about 2 a.m. reporting a man behind Strathmore Road homes hitting vehicles with some type of bat. Several witnesses reported seeing the man walking around and hitting vehicles, and eventually getting inside one of them. Police officers found a man, who they identified as Buiel, inside a vehicle with a hockey stick, wearing a torn trash bag over his clothes because of the rain earlier in the morning. One neighbor told police his storage locker, which contained hockey equipment, had been broken into, other neighbors reported that their cars had been rummaged through. When they searched the man with the bat, they found he had a container of pills on his person, as well as a prescription container in his name. Buiel was arrested and charged with two counts of breaking-and-entering a motor vehicle, four counts of malicious destruction of property, two counts of larceny from a motor vehicle, one count of possession of a class E substance, and disorderly person.

Thursday, Sept. 20

  • Attempted unarmed robbery – Antoine Jackson, aged 25. On Thursday evening, around 8:45 p.m., police received a report of an attempted robbery after a man was walking home along Beacon Street near the Westbourne Terrace (coming from Washington Street) and another man approached him. This man approached the intended victim and instructed him to hand over his wallet, then slapped the man across the face. The "victim" then grabbed the suspect's right arm, and pulled a bottle out of his sweatshirt and took a defensive swing at the suspect--this seemed to scare him off. Police received a description, and after speaking to a witness, believed they knew the attacker. Officers showed the victim a photo array, and he identified Jackson's picture. Police caught up with Jackson on Sunday, Sept. 23 on Washington Street, and and interviewed him about the incident. He denied involvement, but police arrested and charged him with attempted unarmed robbery.
