On Tuesday, June 12, a Brooklyn cycling crash took the life of a 24-year-old woman originally from Brookline, Emma Blumstein.

Her obituary on the Levine Chapels website says she graduated from  in 2006, and from Tufts in 2010 with a degree in English and a minor in Film Studies.

Her family writes in the obituary, "Most of all Emma was wonderful person. Her extremely broad group of friends from every part of her life saw her as warm, considerate, loyal, supportive, fun and very funny with her quirky sense of humor. She was the best companion, buddy and confidant. We, her parents and sister, miss her beyond our ability to express our feelings of loss."

CrownHeights.info, a local news site, reports that she was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash involving her bike and a truck at Bedford Avenue and Empire Boulevard in Brooklyn, she was riding in a bike lane at the time of the crash.  According to Streets Blog, a NYC-area cycling blog, the crash sounds like what cyclists call a " Left cross"--where a vehicle is attempting to take a left turn, and the cyclist is riding straight in the opposite direction.

No charges have been filed against the driver, who told CrownHeights.info that “she was just coming so fast and I was already into the turn; I just could not stop”.

Services were held at Temple Israel on Longwood Avenue, at 11 a.m. today, and her burial was at the Temple Israel cemetery in Wakefield. Her family will hold a memorial observance at their home on Sunday, from 4 to 7 p.m., and ask that donations be made to a charity of your choice in lieu of flowers.
