Farley Pours Home Historic Point Total for Red Devils

Shane Farley wasn’t just filling up the score sheet for fun. The game was on the line.

During a game February 15 versus Wilmington, the Burlington junior poured home a jaw-dropping 50 points as the Red Devils went to overtime and earned a 76-70 overtime victory over the Wildcats. The point total now sits as the best in school history.

“Shane’s performance was phenomenal,” said Burlington basketball coach Tom Lyons. "The biggest thing is that usually when you get someone who scores that many points, it’s not a close game. We needed every one of Shane’s points to win that game.”

As strong as Farley was from the floor, he was even better from the free throw line. He stuck 22 of his 25 attempts from the charity stripe as a part of his monster scoring effort.

The junior said he once put up 55 points in a summer league game, but 50 points was the most he’s ever scored in a varsity game.

“I didn’t really know how many points I had as the game was playing out,” said Farley. “I knew it was getting high, but I wasn’t sure of the exact number.”

Farley said he has plenty of room for improvement in his game as he and his teammates close out the current campaign and begin working towards his senior season.

Playing in college is a goal of Farley’s, one he hopes to accomplish by putting together another strong season next year. But it’s not likely that many games will match the one he had last week.

“I was feeling it,” said Farley. “It felt like whatever I did, it didn’t matter. No one could stop it. I was in the zone, and it was a really good feeling.”
