The following was submitted by the Charlestown Chamber of Commerce.

The Holiday season has arrived, and with that, The Charlestown Chamber of Commerce (C.C.C.) along with many local youths, decorated the light poles on Main St. and Bunker Hill St. with holiday wreaths last Saturday morning

This year the Chamber decided to enlist local youths to hang the wreaths. Charlestown singing sensation, Dennis Taylor, signed up the volunteers and organized the youth into a wreath hanging work crew.  The teenagers helped C.C.C. board member Jessica Cluff and work associate Kimberly Giardino separate the wreaths and attach the bows.  After the bows were attached, the teenagers tossed the wreaths into a pickup truck so C.C.C. Treasurer, Karl Hoyt and Andrew Coots could distribute them around town.  The teens then went out in groups to hang the wreaths.

Tom Coots, Vice Chair of the C.C.C., said, “I have been hanging holiday wreaths for 11 years now, and never has there been so much enthusiasm as there was this year with all the teenagers helping out. It was exciting to see them taking part in their community. It shows that they have holiday spirit and community spirit. They all showed up on time. They were ready, willing and able to work.  They were very polite and respectful. They represented the youth of this town admirably. It was a blast working with them.”

“There has been a lot of support from the community. They have been very generous in helping sponsor a youth to hang the wreaths. Everybody got the message; businesses want to support the youth of Charlestown” said Diane Grant, Business Director for the Chamber. Grant went on to say, “This year, businesses had the option of sponsoring a wreath for $25.00 or paying $75.00 and having $50.00 of that sponsorship go to a local youth to hang the wreaths, bows and signs and take them down  January 6, 2012. It was our best year ever and they were able to sponsor 21 teenagers from all over the town.”

The Charlestown Chamber of Commerce would like to thank Zumes’ Coffee house for donating coffee, hot cocoa and donuts for everyone to munch on during the chilly morning.  Also, Bunker Hill Florist for ordering and delivering the wreaths and bows.  A special thank you goes to Amy Voltero of Olivia Browning for signing up businesses, Faith Harris and Marianne Getchell for driving the kids around and laminating the signs, Vincent Harris (our Mascot), and Jean Marie (Charlestown Community Center) for assisting in the organizing and distributing of the wreaths.

And we cannot forget our wreath hangers; Davon James, Vaughn Skinner, Ziare Richardson, Edward Slater, Brian Woods, Nick Leavitt, Zack Leavitt, Matthew Dighton, Mark Robinson, Matthew Robinson, Dennis Taylor, Ryan Morrissey, Marty Rose, Brennis Scales, Kevin Floason, Patrick Wrenn, Quinlan Sullivan, Tori Coots and Andrew Coots.
