Residents Asked Not to Reserve Parade Spots Until Thursday

Though leaving your chair out in advance of the Fourth of July parade is an annual tradition in Chelmsford, residents should do so at their own risk.

Residents Asked Not to Reserve Parade Spots Until Thursday
Chelmsford's Fourth of July parade takes place on Friday, and residents are already fighting for a good seat. Town officials, however, are asking residents not to get too far ahead of themselves.

As is the annual tradition in town, residents leave their chair on the sidewalk to reserve their spot in the Independence Day parade, even more than a week in advance.

But on the town website, officials have asked residents to remove their chairs from the sidewalk until Thursday.

"The DPW works hard to be sure that the Parade Route and Town Common are in shape for our July 4th events," the announcement said. "The final mowing will take place on July 3rd. Any chairs that are left on the common before then will be removed and left behind the Center for the Arts. The Town will not be held responsible for lost or damaged chairs."

Part of the reason the town is asking to clear chairs is to assure the town is ADA accessible with nothing blocking the sidewalks.
