Emerson Hospital TCU Experiences Brain Healthy Cooking Presentation
Emerson Hospital TCU hosted 20 staff members and patients for "Brain Healthy Cooking," a discussion on foods that improve memory.
CONCORD, MA - Earlier this month, staff and patients at Emerson Hospital Rehabilitation and Transitional Care Unit had the opportunity to hear from experts on how making more healthful and mindful food choices can benefit your brain.
Emerson Hospital TCU hosted 20 staff members and patients for “Brain Healthy Cooking,” a discussion on foods that improve memory and concentration led by Maryellen King of Concord Park Assisted Living and Compass Memory Support. “Brain Healthy Cooking” is an educational program created by Senior Living Residences, management company for Concord Park, that encourages participants to experience and learn a way of eating and cooking that promotes a healthy brain.
“This is a fabulous program that both patients and employees can benefit from,” said Janice Clement, RN, BSN, BC and Director of Nursing at Emerson Hospital’s Rehabilitation and Transitional Care Unit.

The presentation included easy nutrition guidelines and recipes and was followed by a light lunch featuring items from Concord Park’s Brain Healthy Cooking menu.
Eating a diet rich in brain healthy foods, like fresh vegetables, whole grains, nuts, olive oil, fish and seafood, can benefit people at any and every age. These elements, all part of the highly regarded Mediterranean Diet have been scientifically proven to reduce inflammation, regulate blood sugar, promote heart health and scientists are now finding it may have an effect on delaying the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease. Senior Living Residences created the award-winning Brain Healthy Cooking Program, which is based on the Mediterranean Diet, in order to bring residents of their assisted living and memory support communities delicious, taste-tested and healthful daily menu choices that can benefit their cognitive health. The program offers scientific research on the Mediterranean Diet, advice and recipes through their companion website BrainHealthyCooking.com.
