Who says Halloween is just for kids?

is hosting a witch's hat decorating contest open to everyone on the community.

"Anybody can decorate a hat and bring it in," said Meg Gaudet of Concord Park. "There's prizes — we'll have some judges coming in and the winners will get gift certificates."

Submissions will be judged at Concord Park's annual Halloween party on Monday, Oct. 31.

"We usually have a costume contest every Halloween," Gaudet said. "It's a lot of fun, but this time we added the element of the hat."

The Halloween festivities are a big hit at Concord Park, Gaudet said. "The seniors get to see something that's a little bit more fun and out of the ordinary."

Hats will be separated into adult and youth (under 14) groups, and judged in three different categories: most original, scariest, and most whimsical. There is a $25 limit on how much each entrant can spend on his/her decorations.

Prizes for the adult categories include $50 certificates to , , and . Youth prizes include a $50 gift certificate to , and $25 gift certificates to and Reasons to be Cheerful.

Submissions must be turned in by Thursday, Oct. 27. Adult hats can be brought to Concord Park, 68 Commonwealth Avenue, and youth hats may be brought to Dabblers, 119 Commonwealth Avenue. All hats must be labeled with the artist's name, contact information and specified as youth or adult entries.
