Chism Pleads Not Guilty to Rape Charge

Murder suspect Philip Chism pleaded not guilty on Thursday to an aggravated rape charge against him in connection with the murder of Danvers High School teacher Colleen Ritzer in October.

The 15-year-old was indicted by a grand jury last week on the additional charge of aggravated rape. Prosecutors said that Chism forcibly had sexual intercourse with the DHS teacher.

He was arraigned on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated rape and armed robbery on Dec. 4.

Investigators also obtained a warrant last week to search the teen’s phone for evidence, including possible images of the crime. Chism reportedly confessed to killing the teacher on the night that he allegedly killed Ritzer.
