First Solar Parking Canopy Installation in Danvers Completed at Danversport Yacht Club

First Solar Parking Canopy Installation in Danvers Completed at Danversport Yacht Club
IRC Solar Roof Systems (IRC) and Old Salt Works Partners, a Beverly-based solar development firm, announced the completion of a 250kW solar parking canopy system at the Danversport Yacht Club.  The system is one of the first commercial solar parking canopies completed under the state’s new SREC II solar program, which officially opens on April 25, 2014.  The Danversport Yacht Club (DYC) offers social and corporate events, waterfront public dining, and a full-service marina, and will use the new system to serve the internal electricity requirements of the facility.

Paul DeLorenzo, General Manager of Danversport Yacht Club, stated, “The Danversport Yacht Club embraces environmentally progressive practices.  Our new 250 kilowatt solar canopy not only produces clean, renewable energy, it utilizes the land so that people can park in the shade and even charge their car for free.  We are pleased that Danversport Yacht Club can continue to do our part in further reducing our environmental footprint.”

Mike Davis of IRC Solar Roof Systems, said “We would like to thank Paul for his leadership on the first commercial solar carport in Danvers, and also express our gratitude to the town for all its cooperation.  The team at the Danvers Municipal Electric Company provided expert guidance and professional assistance and was instrumental in the success of the project.”

Old Salt Works Partners previously led the development of 14 megawatts of large-scale solar farms in four Massachusetts communities, a capital investment of $40 million.  Matthew Fitzpatrick, of Old Salt Works Partners, added “We appreciate the opportunity to team with DYC and IRC on what we expect to be the start of several major projects on the North Shore.”

The cost of solar energy technology has decreased significantly as the technology and market mature globally and within Massachusetts.
