Book Signing in Dedham on Thursday

Children’s author Janet Coleman will be signing copies of her newest book, “Eight Dolphins,” at the Nest on High Street this week.

The new book, which was released in August, tells the story of eight captive dolphins washed into the Gulf of Mexico during the catastrophic  hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Coleman said her book is about the bond between trainers and dolphins.

“What the story reveals is that these animals, really lost everything.  They  didn’t have a home, they didn’t have trainers, they didn’t have food, they didn’t have any type of protection, and they grew up in captivity.  They were so much like all the people that have gone through Katrina, and they stuck together and they helped each other out and survived.  And that’s what the people did too."

Coleman interviewed realtrainers, who lost eight dolphins after the storm.

“I suddenly understood that this is a story about the connection between people and animals, between these trainers and their dolphins, and that story hasn’t been told before."

Coleman will sign copies of her new book on October 24 from 5-8:00 p.m.  and said she enjoys the Nest very much.

The author lives with her husband in Wayland, MA is the author of various children’s stories including “Secrets, Lies, Gizmos, and Spies, A History of Spies and Espionage,”  and  "Baseball For Everyone, Stories From the Great Game.”
