Dedham Middle School Makes 'Great Strides' at Annual CF Walk

Last year, the group from the Dedham Middle School raised almost $2,000 for CF. The school tells us, that early pledges and donations were once again very strong, and that they expect to surpass last year's mark.

7th grade Readng teacher, Sarah Tapply, led a group of over two dozen Dedham Middle School, 6 – 8th grade National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) members, on a 4 mile walk through town. Joined by fellow DMS teachers, Pam Murray, Arielle Sutton, Chris Nadeau, and Kevin Murphy – the teachers continued the tradition of having their students find ways to help out, in and around the community.

The Annual “Great Strides” Walk, is the largest Cystic Fibrosis fundraising event in the nation. Each year, more than 250,000 walkers come together, and in 2012, nearly $40 million dollars was raised to help find a cure for CF. We are assured that real progress has been made fighting the disease, and the folks at CF always need the public's continued support to fulfill their mission.

Here in Dedham, over 30 “teams” (each representing a local Cystic Fibrosis family) signed on to participate in the walk, donate money for this worthy cause, and celebrate with friends and family afterwards.

Tables and tents were set up around the Endicott Estate, Chuck Dello Iacono and his crew cooked all day – there were raffles, a D.J. and entertainment for the whole family.

“We have a great group of students, who have all worked very hard – volunteering their time and effort to make this walk a success,” Tapply said.

Congratulations to all of the teams involved, in the 2013 Cystic Fibrosis Great Strides Walk to find a cure!
