Team sports are a funny thing. As a coach, you need to keep an open mind and always be able to “tinker” with your line-up, starting rotation, who you sub with, when and where. John Maida's Dedham Metrowest Boys 7th grade Basketball Team is no different.

Casual defense, not hustling down the court, missing passes or baskets, will certainly find you a place – on the bench.

The Metrowest boys traveled out to Southboro last weekend, and the score at the end of the first quarter was only 12-4 Dedham.

Maida made many substitutions during the first half (Dedham 32-13) to keep his team focused and playing to the best of their ability. He certainly let his guys know that he “always” expects 100% from each and every one of them. His message was received, loud and clear.

Once again, Nick Loring was on fire, with 10 pts. an assist, 8 rebounds and 4 steals. Davin Sweeney had the hot hand and scored a team high 12 points, making one basket under the net while being covered by four boys from Southboro!

Sweeney added 4 rebounds and 3 steals to his total. The continued hard work of Dylan Maida earned the boy 11 pts. 3 assists, 5 rebounds and 5 steals. Liam Dorsey was strong with 9 points, an assist, a rebound and 2 steals. Ty Scurry`s 5 points and 6 rebounds was too much for the team from Southboro.

Corey Kilroy and David Logan combined for 5 points and a whopping 10 rebounds! Brandon Ruiz, Ty Rowell and Mark Rella added 11 points to the total and Brian Tavares' hustle on both ends of the court helped Dedham win their 3rd straight game, this time by a score of 64-29.

Next up, a road trip to Weston before the Holiday break.
