With prom this week and graduation on the horizon local authorities are hoping to get thier message across to students to stay safe and make smart decisions during what can be a hectic time.

The message comes in the form of a totaled car wreck parked at the entrance of the student parking lot at D-S.

Parents received a letter explaning the wreck which said:

"S.A.D.D., in conjunction with the Dover and Sherborn Police Departments, has displayed a wrecked car from a drunk driving crash at the front of the student lot to remind students about the dangers of destructive decisions during prom and graduation season. Alcohol related crashes and teen driving fatalities increase during this time each year and we would like to remind students to make proper choices as we celebrate end-of-year activities."

The car will remain at the school until May 15 and school safety and D.A.R.E Officer Harold Grabert is hoping that the car will remind students of the consequences that poor decision making can have on themselves and on their families and friends.

"This should be a special time for students and parents. Parents should be proud of their son's/daughter's achievements. The High School, Dover and Sherborn Police, SADD, SPAN, and Clergy want to remind both parents and students that during this fast approaching prom and graduation season, one bad decision can change everything," he said. "The car is a reminder of the type of devastating consequences one bad decision can have. A life can change for better or worse in seconds. Congratulations to all the graduating seniors and good luck with your future endeavors. BE SAFE!!!!"
