Massachusetts Wind Turbines: Warning Batteries Not Included

Our politicians fail the political risk analysis of the concept of political due diligence. Officials put cart in front the horse again.

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed into law an energy bill that does not take into account the massive ongoing health and financial problems associated with commercial wind turbines. The bill directs utilities to procure 1,600 megawatts of offshore wind and about 1,200 megawatts of hydroelectric power which also includes contributions from the unhealthy land based wind turbines in twenty one communities.

The energy bill also ignores major problems with battery storage.

The state continues to allow the cart to be put before the horse. The state of Massachusetts through the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center has caused major health and financial issues all over Massachusetts. Now comes act three in which the turbines have no battery storage another negative omission in a long list of omissions

We know that land based wind turbine documents, maps, studies, memos, letters and videos show the state was aware the turbines were dangerously too loud prior to the installations.

We know Falmouth is ground zero for poorly placed wind turbines in the United States with more than eleven ongoing lawsuits over a noise described as torture from lack of sleep.

We know in addition the supposed ocean wind port in New Bedford spells out the massive loss of state infrastructure money thrown away on the incomplete financial fiasco. There is no ocean wind turbine port and there are no jobs.

Engineers know the true cost of renewable energy will depend on how much energy storage is needed.

The recent energy bill fails to caution the public the wind turbines do not include batteries.

As the fraction of renewable energy increases existing methods of energy production will not be able to keep up with the voltage problems. For example the current power plants add or subtract power to keep up with power demand. When the wind does not blow the turbines produce zero power and the conventional power plants have to crank up to cover the loss. When the wind is blowing and the turbines are producing too much power there is no where to store the power.

There has to be a mix of conventional power and renewable energy. There is no way around it. Massachusetts state officials would have its residents think wind turbines can replace every power plant in Massachusetts. The simple question is what happens when the wind doesn't blow ?

The only answer is without battery storage renewable energy is a major problem with grid capacity problems.

A large amount of commercial wind spiking up and down as the wind blows causes major problems for grid operators.

Battery manufacturers today don't make inexpensive batteries for energy storage.

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center and our state politicians are again omitting negative information from the wind turbine formula as they did with health noise warnings and building an ocean wind turbine port in New Bedford with no rail link, no cranes an only a 120 foot legal width opening to the useless port.

The taxpayers of Massachusetts should know it will be impossible to reach high levels of renewable energy without battery backup.

The new battery technologies do not exist today. The older battery back up systems that do exist are going to be paid for by who ?

Ocean wind turbine projects are made up of wind turbines tied together with electric cables to Electric Service Platforms, ESPs, and then sent onshore.

Massachusetts taxpayers should demand the ocean wind turbine contractor and other renewable energy contractors transporting electric power into the State of Massachusetts be responsible for the storage of electric power from the renewable energy source before any grid operator in Massachusetts purchases the power.

The wind turbine producers should produce and store the power at their expense in preparation for the sale of their power to the grid.

An electric grid is a network of synchronized power providers and consumers that are connected by transmission and distribution lines and operated by one or more control centers. When most people talk about the power "grid," they're referring to the transmission system for electricity

The storage of power should not fall on the local power companies or the residential or commercial rate payers.

It's time to start paying attention before your electric bill becomes a second mortgage on your home or business.

Wake up before it is too late .......Remember opening up those presents to find they were no good without the batteries ?

Large scale commercial wind projects needs batteries and you don't want to be the one that has to go down to the store and buy the batteries

Ask your local politician that voted for the energy bill : "Who is paying for the batteries ? "

Again our politicians fail the political risk analysis of the concept of political due diligence !
