Foxborough Gets a New Street Name – Lincoln Hill Way

There’s a new street name in Foxborough after selectmen recently approved Briarwood Construction Corporation’s request to name the road at the intersection of Oak and Cocasset streets Lincoln Hill Way.

The road is part of Oak Farm Estates and its new name has historical relevance to Foxborough.

“This has been run by the [Foxborough] Historical Society and [Town Historian] Jack Authelet said it’s appropriate,” said selectman Lynda Walsh. “I believe public safety said the road name was fine.”

The road is named after Lincoln Hill, which according to documents provided by Michael S. Ferrone of Briarwood Construction Corp., was a boys’ summer camp in Foxborough for many years.

Following the donation of 27 acres of land on Oak Street in 1925 by Foxborough resident Ella G. Hill, the Episcopal City Mission started a summer camp for boys named Lincoln Hill Camp, according to Ferrone’s letter to selectmen.

“Hundreds of disadvantaged city youth enjoyed a summer camping experience in Foxborough. Continually improved over the years, separate camp was discontinued in the early 1970’s and purchased by the town in 1975. It was then leased to the Massachusetts Jaycees Charitable Trust for five years to conduct a summer camp for children with learning disabilities. Enormously successful, it was not continued beyond the five years as in the interim, special education classes were established in public schools statewide in Massachusetts,” according to Ferrone’s letter.
