5 Things You Need To Know Today in Framingham: February 5

1. Today is an early release day for Framingham Public School students at the elementary and middle school level.
- The main Framingham Library is hold an early release Book BINGO at 3 p.m. for elementary students.
- The young adult section of the main Framingham Library is holding a textile workshop from 3 to 4:30 p.m. today for middle and high school students. Pre-registration is required and the free workshop is limited to 15 students. To celebrate Black History Month, attendees will create a textile with Adinkra symbols from the Ashanti people of Ghana. They will learn the historical meaning of the symbols and how to transfer them to textile. And then they will create their own textile strip to add a beautiful unique accent to your jeans, jacket, or pillow. Call 508-532-5570 Ext. 4335 or e-mail mmaiorana@minlib.net to register.

3. Yesterday, DPW crews worked on two water main breaks in Framingham.
- Crews repaired a 6-inch water main from 1951 on Edgewater Drive, that left about 40 homes without water for most of Wednesday.
- Crews last night fixed an 8-inch water main from 1926 burst at the intersection of Beaver Street and Blandin Avenue.
4. In case you missed it: Framingham-based Staples announced yesterday it plans to purchased rival Office Depot for $6 billion. The deal has the company keeping its headquarters here in Framingham. Click here to read more.

5. The main Framingham Library will hold a free lecture tonight on World War 1 posters at 7. Framingham State Associate Professor of art history Erika Schneider will talk about major graphic design artists and images from 1914-18. The lecture is part of the lifelong learning lecture series, a collaboration between Framingham State Univesity and the Framingham Public Library. Refreshments will be served.
