5 Things You Need To Know Today: Jan. 14

Girls workshop this afternoon, School Committee candidate rally tonight, Christmas tree collection this week and politicians honored a Framingham woman over the weekend all featured in today's column.

Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.

1. A rally for School Committee candidate Eric Silverman has been scheduled for Monday, Jan. 14 at Bella Costa Ristorante from 6 to 8 p.m. The public is invited.

2. Framingham Parks & Recreation and Century Health Systems have teamed up to offer a special program for girls ages 11-14 to improve self-esteem, setting boundaries with friends and identifying bad relationships. The program is this afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Registration $35.

3. Framingham Public Schools Plan to Hire District-Wide Translator and Literacy Coach for Wilson Elementary with the additional money it received from Special Town Meeting In October. Click here for the full press release on how they will spent the money.

4. Just a reminder that this week, Framingham will do a curbside Christmas tree collection. You should put your tree out the same day as your trash.

5. Over the weekend, the Framingham Democratic Town Committee honored Norma Shulman with its first ever Volunteer of the Year award.

Thanks to Framingham resident Ramuel Raagas for the video attached to this report. I was off this weekend from Framingham Patch.
