Tonight is opening night for the Worcester-Based community theater's production of the Adam Sandler hit comedy made into a musical.

Framingham Thesbian Stars in The Wedding Singer Musical

This month, pop your collars and get ready to travel back to 1985 as Worcester-based Moonstruck Theater Company presents The Wedding Singer, opening tonight and running for seven shows through Aug. 19.

Based on the hilarious 1998 comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, The Wedding Singer is the totally radical story of New Jersey’s favorite wedding singer, Robbie Hart, whose life takes a turn for the worst after he is stood up at the altar at his own wedding. That is, until he meets the ever-sweet Julia, but alas, she's already engaged to Glen Guglia, a pompous Wall Street shark. With catchy tunes and energetic dancing, it’s sure to be a party every night. The film is brought to life on stage with music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin.

The Worcester production features Framingham resident Sharon Kivnik as Robbie’s down-to-earth, hip grandmother, Rosie. When she’s not trying to cheer up Robbie with tales of her past “escapades,” Rosie’s dropping a mad beat and laying down some fresh rhymes.   Kivnik is a retired CFO and a veteran to Massachusetts community theater.

Performances are tonight Aug. 10 and then Aug. 11 17, and 18 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 12, 18, and 19 at 2 p.m. at the Andes Pit Theater, Worcester Academy, 81 Providence St. in Worcester.

Tickets are $17 for adults and $12 for seniors/students.  Visit http://www.moonstrucktheater.org or call 508-251-9224 for tickets or additional information.
