Free August Activities For Families

It's just you and the kids, why not take advantage of some home grown fun?

You’re in the home stretch of vacation with just a few precious weeks left until school starts. Why not take advantage of some free, fun Framingham events to pass the time? 

The Framingham Public Library has many family-friendly happenings for the month of August:

Animal Adventures
Today, Aug. 3, 3 to 4 p.m.

Main Library, Costin Room
Entering Grade 1 and up
Featuring a 'hands on' approach for the adventurous soul and a visual experience for the less bold, participants learn about and handle exotic and local creatures as well as discover the role of each in our delicate ecosystem.

Drop-in Baby Lapsit
Fridays Aug. 5 and 19, and Saturdays Aug. 13 and 27, 10:30–10:50 a.m.

J Program Room, Ages 0–2 with an adult
Come sing and play with words, rhyme, and puppets at baby lapsit time! Parents can network while babies pick up phonemic awareness, one of the foundations for successfully learning to read. Plan to stay and play afterwards with new friends and puppets.

Ice Cream Social and Movie: Gnomeo and Juliet (Rated G).
Wednesday Aug. 10, 2 to 4:30 p.m.

Entering Grade 1 and up
Caught up in a feud between neighbors, Gnomeo and Juliet must overcome many obstacles. Despite flamboyant pink flamingoes and epic lawnmower races, can this young couple find lasting happiness?

Friday Flick: Rango (Rated PG for rude humor, language, action and smoking).
Friday Aug. 12, 2-4 p.m.

All Ages
Rango is an ordinary chameleon who accidentally winds up in the town of Dirt, a lawless outpost in the Wild West in desperate need of a new sheriff.

Book Bingo
Thursday Aug. 18, 7-8 p.m.

Kindergarten and up
Prizes, laughs, and best of all, books! Join us for our ever-popular Book Bingo and learn about many of the books the library has to offer.

Family Game Night
Tuesday Aug. 23, 7-8 p.m.

Main Library, Costin Room
All Ages, Preregistration required for Wii
Stop in and enjoy a multitude of board and card games with family and friends. Try out some Wii Resort Games as well!

Pajama Storytime
Thursday Aug. 25, 7-7:30 p.m.

Main Library, J Program Room
All Ages
Come in your pajamas to enjoy some multicultural stories with special guest reader, Gauri.

Friday Night Concerts on the Green

Concerts run from 6:30-8:30 pm on the Village Green in Framingham Center

There are only two concerts left this season, so pack a picnic and have a blast. Upcoming groups are:

  • Aug. 5 Off the Hook  (pop /current hits)
  • Aug. 12 Three of a Kind (pop)

Town Beaches

And for a nominal fee, the Framingham Town Beaches offer day passes for only $3 to residents. Proof of residency required or you will be charged the non-resident fee of $6. 

There are three beaches in Framingham:

  • Learned Pond - Lower Shawmut Terrace
  • Saxonville Beach - Lake Road
  • Waushakum - Nipmuc Road

Beach hours are: Monday – Sunday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

All beaches officially close on Aug. 18.
